In the 1970s, Sadie Lancaster was a popular dancer at the Starlite Room in Hollywood. One day, she told a friend that when she was young, if a boy behaved badly during a dance, he would be removed from the dance card. As time went on, however, many girls had trouble scoring their names from the dance card. In fact, if a boy behaved badly during a dance, there was little a girl could do about it.

The person who wrote out her name was not going to listen to her complaints and she had no choice but to take the name off the card and go home. The girls still wanted to be friends with the boys they liked, but there were no repercussions for bad behavior.
